Faith Is the Key
Advancing with the Gosho: Words of Encouragement
It is the heart that is important. No matter how
earnestly Nichiren prays for you, if you lack faith,
it will be like trying to set fire to wet tinder.
Spur yourself to muster the power of faith.

Faith Is the Key
As SGI members, we can employ the invincible “strategy of the Lotus Sutra” (WND-1, 1001). To exercise this quintessential power of faith, Nichiren Daishonin says, “It is the heart that is important” (WND-1, 1000).
If we have firm belief in the Mystic Law and courage based on the shared commitment of mentor and disciple, our prayers will be realized without fail. Encourage one another and rouse even stronger faith, especially at times of difficulty. Let’s break through our limitations with “faith for absolute victory” and create a brilliant achievement of which we can be proud!

When someone reported to me . . . that you
had been taken with this illness, day and night, morning and evening I addressed the Lotus Sutra on the matter, morning and evening I implored the gods of the blue heavens.
And now today I have received word that you have recovered from illness. Could any tidings be more joyful than these?

A Sense of Responsibility Is Reflected in Prompt Action
Nichiren Daishonin sent this letter immediately after hearing the news that the recipient had recovered from illness. His great compassion in doing so exemplifies the highest form of humanity.
Only by taking action to express our thoughts can we convey them to others. Sincerity is reflected in our prompt response. Acting with speed has been the key to the Soka Gakkai’s success. At the heart of this is our prayers for the happiness of others.
Chanting Nam-myoho-rengekyo for the health and good fortune of our fellow members and friends each day, let’s continue to spread our wonderful humanistic network.
