To the Selfless and Noble Fathers of the SGI-USA:

For so many years you have worked hard behind the scenes to nurture and support the youth of Soka, be they members of your families or members of your districts. Thank you!

And now, we stand at the cusp of a great movement that will definitely change the destiny of our society—namely, our campaign to gather 50,000 youth in 2018 to stand up for peace, justice and the dignity of life. What will be the key to this? It will be your fierce prayer and tireless action for the sake of others.

SGI President Ikeda has often cited this famous phrase from Nichiren Daishonin: “If in a single moment of life we exhaust the pains and trials of millions of kalpas, then instant after instant there will arise in us the three Buddha bodies with which we are eternally endowed. Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is just such a ‘diligent’ practice” (The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, p. 214).

Regarding this, Sensei says: “This passage has supported me in every struggle I’ve faced. I have overcome everything and triumphed completely by chanting with an intensity to compress all eternity into a single moment of life” (Jan. 9, 2015, World Tribune, Future Journal insert, pp. 2–3).

The future cannot be known, and the past is already in the rearview mirror. What matters is our ability to live to the fullest at this moment, pouring our heart and soul into encouraging the young man or woman right in front of us.

So, please put your fullest efforts into enjoying the most wonderful Father’s Day with friends and family. And then, let’s put that same intensity and level of effort into encouraging one young person after another, with both our words and our deeds.

Thank you once again!

Adin Strauss
SGI-USA General Director
