“Our New Clear Future” in Las Vegas

Student Division News

On United Nations Day, Oct. 24, 2015, 114 SGI-USA members and guests of Las Vegas Region participated in the event “Our New Clear Future,” held at Nevada State College in Henderson, Nevada.

This activity supported the SGI-USA student division’s “Our New Clear Future” movement, launched in 2011, to abolish nuclear weapons through grass-roots public consensus.

Participants viewed the SGI nuclear disarmament exhibition “From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit,” which was showcased for the first time at the college. SGI-USA members Nanae Perez and Takako Mino relayed their stories of how the August 1945 atomic bombings continue to affect their families in Japan. The audience also participated in a Q&A with guest speaker Steve Curtis, a radiation scientist formerly with NASA.

U.S. Rep. Dina Titus issued a certificate of special congressional commendation to the SGI-USA Las Vegas members for their efforts to collaborate with the community. The certificate was presented at the Nevada State College event.
