Brief Guidances

Spreading Sincere, Heartfelt Encouragement

Words of Encouragement From Ikeda Sensei

No one born human, whether high or low, is free from sorrow and distress. Yet troubles vary according to the time and differ according to the person. In this respect, sorrow is like illness: no matter what malady one may suffer from, as it worsens, one will think that no illness could be more dreadful.

“Letter to Konichi-bo,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p. 662

Nichiren Daishonin always showed great concern for his disciples and continued to send them encouragement tailored to their circumstances.

Everyone has problems and worries. They have all kinds of challenges. Sincere, heartfelt words motivated by a wish for another’s happiness can be a source of boundless strength.

Our efforts as Soka Gakkai members to encourage others are like a warm breeze dispelling anxiety and forging heart-to-heart connections. Let’s confidently share the Mystic Law with others, telling them of its wondrous power to transform all sorrow and despair into hope and courage.

Translated from the May 11, 2021 Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper.
