Brief Guidances

Setting Clear Goals Is Crucial to Victory

Words of Encouragement From Ikeda Sensei

The ten directions are the “environment,” and living beings are “life.” To illustrate, environment is like the shadow, and life, the body. Without the body, no shadow can exist, and without life, no environment. In the same way, life is shaped by its environment.

“On Omens,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p. 644

The “oneness of life and its environment” is a fundamental principle of Buddhism offering boundless hope. In other words, when we change, our environment changes. Through the power of our resolve, we can transform our homes, our workplaces and our communities.

Therefore, let’s set clear goals again this year, chant about how we can achieve them and then take concrete action. In both our lives and in society, let’s demonstrate how our human revolution contributes to realizing a peaceful and prosperous world based on humanistic ideals.

Let’s also remember to do our best to protect the environment by solidly uniting with others and making efforts from where we are right now.

Translated from the January 21, 2021 Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper.
