Brief Guidances

Illuminating Society Through Our Bodhisattva Practice

Words of Encouragement From Ikeda Sensei

The heart of the Buddha’s lifetime of teachings is the Lotus Sutra, and the heart of the practice of the Lotus Sutra is found in the “Never Disparaging” chapter.

“The Three Kinds of Treasure,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, pp. 851–52

As Soka Gakkai members, we are living in accord with the heart and essence of the Lotus Sutra. All around the world, our members, despite their problems and struggles, are challenging themselves tremendously for the happiness of others and the welfare of society. I wholeheartedly applaud them for their efforts as modern-day bodhisattvas.

Like Bodhisattva Never Disparaging, let’s not be discouraged even if our sincerity is not appreciated by others.

Let’s wisely and freely tap our creativity and ingenuity as we continue to engage joyously in committed, heartfelt dialogue.

Translated from the December 23, 2020 Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper.
