Brief Guidances

Discussion Meetings Are a Source of Revitalization and Courage

Words of Encouragement From Ikeda Sensei

All those who keep faith in the Lotus Sutra are most certainly Buddhas, and one who slanders a Buddha commits a grave offense.

When one chants the daimoku [Nam-myoho-renge-kyo] bearing in mind that there are no distinctions among those who embrace the Lotus Sutra, then the blessings one gains will be equal to those of Shakyamuni Buddha.

“The Fourteen Slanders,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p. 756

Our discussion meetings are gatherings brimming with the great impartial wisdom of the Mystic Law, gatherings of Buddhas. Respectful dialogue and mutual encouragement are a source of revitalization and courage.

First Soka Gakkai President Tsunesaburo Makiguchi referred to members’ noble experiences of changing poison into medicine as precious diamonds. The more we speak about the benefits we have gained through our Buddhist practice, the more they will shine. Ours is a network of respect for life and human dignity that people everywhere are seeking.

Let’s make even greater efforts to bring the light of hope and joy to all those around us, members and nonmembers alike.

Translated from the November 20, 2020 Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper.
