ORANGE COUNTY, Calif.—High school students in Southern California are bringing the spirit of “One Youth. Infinite Hope” to their campuses.

At Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, California, Ivan Cordner and Natalie Cordner introduced their new SGI Buddhist club at the school’s club rush. It was their first time participating, and many students signed up to learn more.

In Santa Ana, California, ninth grader Masashi Kriengparthana started a club at the Orange County School of the Arts. His first club rush also drew many who signed up.

The clubs aim to give students a place to explore Buddhist philosophy and discuss how its values apply to daily life. Through dialogue, members can consider questions about stress, relationships and purpose, as well as how ideas such as value creation and human revolution can guide their actions. The students decide how often to meet, typically during a lunch break once a week or every other week.

Ivan, Natalie and Masashi plan to share ideas as they develop their clubs. Their efforts offer fellow students a new opportunity to build friendships and discover how one person can make a difference in their school community.
