Shin’ichi’s purpose in engaging in dialogue was to affirm this shared human conviction with those he spoke with and forge a consensus for peace. He wished to build a network of people—transcending national, ethnic, and religious differences—dedicated to protecting the dignity of life. He believed in human goodness. He was certain that by conversing frankly and sincerely, people could come to understand, empathize with, and trust one another.
