The Buddha’s mind found expression as the written words of the Lotus Sutra. These written words are the Buddha’s mind in a different form. Therefore, those who read the Lotus Sutra must not regard it as consisting of mere written words, for those words are in themselves the Buddha’s mind.

The Seikyo Shimbun is a bastion of the written word, embodying the heart of the Lotus Sutra, which conveys the Buddha’s mind and intent. It brims with the vibrant words and voices of wise Bodhisattvas of the Earth dedicated to compassionately spreading the Mystic Law. It shines with respect for life and human dignity and celebrates the triumphs of ordinary people.

Today, people in Japan and as many as 217 countries and territories globally read the Seikyo Shimbun, thanks to its digital platform. This fulfills the wish of my mentor, Josei Toda, for people all around the world to read our paper.

The quality and content of sister publications in each country and territory are becoming more and more impressive, too.

Armed with our publications, which showcase the activities of global citizens for peace, culture and education, today again let’s spread the light of hope!

From the Aug. 16, 2023, issue of the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper, Seikyo Shimbun.
