In recognition of 75 years since the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, SGI-Australia hosted an online peace event calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons. Over 300 participants joined, including keynote speaker Gem Romuld, the Australian director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons.

SGI members in Kenya are holding meetings online to prevent the spread of COVID-19. They study Ikeda Sensei’s The New Human Revolution together every Sunday, chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and encourage one another over the phone. Some members are supporting local humanitarian agencies’ anti-coronavirus initiatives.

On Aug. 20, the Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper, reported that the construction of a new Soka Gakkai Indonesia center in Bintan Island began in July and is expected to be completed by summer 2021.
