The SGI-USA will hold its second introductory exam of 2025 from Oct. 11 to 12. All the material for the exam can be found in The Basics of Nichiren Buddhism.
NEW STUDY TOOL!
A new study tool is now available to help members prepare for this biannual exam! Simple, easy-to-use flashcards and quizzes based on the study material can be accessed on the “Member Resources Portal” from any device for both personal and group study.
1. Go to portal.sgi-usa.org and sign in.
2. Navigate to “Personal” > “My Exams” > “Exam Study Guides” > “Introductory Exam Flashcards and Quizzes.”
3. Once there, at the top of the page, you can toggle between “Flashcards” and “Quiz.”
Features:
Flashcards: Choose a category, read the question and reveal the correct answer by clicking the flashcard. Each answer includes a page number referencing the answer in The Basics of Nichiren Buddhism for further review and study.
Quiz: Select a category and answer multiple-choice questions. Correct answers are highlighted in green, incorrect ones in red. Each answer includes a page number referencing the answer in The Basics of Nichiren Buddhism for further review and study.
EXAM ELIGIBILITY
This exam is for all new members and for all those, including guests, who have not taken or passed the introductory exam in previous years. The exam will also be offered in Spanish. Examinees must register at portal.sgi-usa.org to take the exam.
The deadline to register to take the exam is Oct. 5, 11:59 p.m. PDT. Registration will not be available after this time and cannot be done on the day of the exam.
EXAM LOCATIONS
Exams will be held at local SGI-USA centers or rental facilities. Please confirm the exact date and time with your local organization. Examinees must bring a smart device to take the exam (smartphone, tablet or laptop). No paper or hard copy exam will be available.
STUDY MATERIAL
All exam material is in The Basics of Nichiren Buddhism, which can be purchased at your local SGI-USA bookstore or online at bookstore.sgi-usa.org, or downloaded for free at portal.sgi-usa.org. In your portal, please go to “My Exams” > “Exam Study Guides” > “Introductory Exam.”
