DENVER—The SGI-USA members in Denver hosted an introductory Buddhist meeting on May 13 at their activity center for a special audience—55 students from Dunstan Middle School in nearby Lakewood, Colorado.
The students, joined by 14 chaperones, were invited to the center as part of a cultural education trip planned by Jessica Bridges, an SGI-USA member who teaches at the school. Bridges has hosted three such school trips since 2024.
Rocky Mountain Zone youth representatives Eamon Weber, Shelby Niemczura and Erica Kawabata led the meeting, with a welcome, explanation of Buddhism and faith experience that set a warm tone for the gathering. The students chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo three times as part of the activity. Participants said the students’ smiles and excitement were contagious and deepened their sense of joy in sharing Buddhism in their community.
