Our Efforts Awaken Other Buddhas

When the conditions are right, a seed manifests its inner nature. Even the tallest tree stretching into the sky starts out as a tiny seed—a seed with enormous potential. The seed of Buddhahood, in particular, unfailingly leads to the blossoming of Buddha nature. The seed of Buddhahood, Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, grows into the great flower of the Mystic Law within the depths of our lives. It enables us to bring forth flowers of happiness and victory for ourselves and others, unconstrained by any hardship or suffering.

The Lotus Sutra states, “The seeds of Buddhahood sprout through causation” (The Lotus Sutra and Its Opening and Closing Sutras, p. 75). And Nichiren writes, “Because one has heard the Lotus Sutra, which leads to Buddhahood, with this as the seed, one will invariably become a Buddha” (“Those Initially Aspiring to the Way,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p. 882).

We talk to others one to one about Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, the essence of the Lotus Sutra, enable them to hear it and let it resonate in their lives. By so doing, we help ever growing numbers of people form a connection with Nichiren Buddhism. Our propagation efforts constitute the challenge of sowing the seed of Buddhahood, the Mystic Law, in people’s lives. (The Teachings for Victory, vol. 5, p. 126)
