Brief Guidances

Imbuing Our Lives With the Supreme Good of the Mystic Law

Words of Encouragement From Ikeda Sensei

Snow is the ultimate in whiteness; no dyeing will make it any other color. Lacquer is the ultimate in blackness; it will never become white. But how different is the human heart in its fickleness! It can be dyed by either good or evil.

“Snow and Lacquer” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 2, p. 675

The human heart is fickle. When stained by evil influences, it can become corrupt and out of control. That is why it is important to recognize devilish functions for what they are by viewing them in the bright mirror of the Gosho—Nichiren Daishonin’s writings—and thoroughly imbue our lives with the supreme good of the Mystic Law.

The Soka Gakkai is unshakable because the Gosho is the foundation of our activities. We can change all poison into medicine and powerfully open the way to a positive, value-creating future. Let’s continue advancing with the Gosho, solidifying our faith so that it is “as unchanging as snow or lacquer” (WND-2, 675).

Translated from the November 24, 2021 Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper.
