The Jan. 21 issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper, reported that SGI President Ikeda sent a congratulatory message to Joseph Biden, who was inaugurated on Jan. 20 as the 46th president of the United States.

In his message, President Ikeda noted that the Japanese people will never forget how, 10 years ago, Mr. Biden, as vice president, visited the Tohoku region of Japan and warmly encouraged those who had been affected by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The SGI president expressed his deep wish that, as the world faces multiple crises, the Biden presidency will be a great bridge of hope that brings humanity together. He also conveyed his prayers for the further prosperity of America.

President Ikeda sent a congratulatory message to the new U.S. vice president, Kamala Harris, as well. He shared that her inauguration as the first woman, first African American and first Asian American to hold the office marks the beginning of a new era in global society, expressing his hope that she continue making contributions for the future of humanity.
