On Jan. 27, youth leaders across the country will take the SGI-USA Ikeda Wisdom Academy Exam III, covering The Opening of the Eyes: SGI President Ikeda’s Lecture Series. The exam will mark the completion of the second class of the Ikeda Wisdom Academy, an advanced study program for district through national youth leaders, which was founded by President Ikeda on Jan. 26, 2013.

How Do I Register for the Exam?

District through national youth leaders who have passed the SGI-USA Introductory Exam are eligible to take the exam on Jan. 27. Participants can register via the SGI-USA Portal account at portal.sgi-usa.org. Please contact your local line leader for more information regarding the time and location of your exam.

What Is the Purpose of the Ikeda Wisdom Academy?

In line with its motto, “Protecting the Mentor & the Teachings,” the ultimate aim of the Ikeda Wisdom Academy is to raise capable leaders for kosen-rufu who have a correct understanding of the lineage of Buddhist humanism, who are committed to putting the teachings into practice and who can advance kosen-rufu through courageous propagation based on the oneness of mentor and disciple.

President Ikeda speaks of this spirit in his inaugural message to the group, saying in part:

Nichiren Daishonin wrote to the young Nanjo Tokimitsu, “My wish is that all my disciples make a great vow” (“The Dragon Gate,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p. 1003). This one statement constitutes the Daishonin’s eternal guideline for all youth throughout the 10,000 years of the Latter Day of the Law.

As youth, you face all sorts of difficulties, and wrestle each day with worries and problems. Precisely for this reason, it is crucial that you stand up with a great vow and strive to achieve a fundamental goal. Once you decide what is fundamental, nothing that happens will sway you, and you can grow by leaps and bounds. (Feb. 15, 2013, World Tribune, p. 2)

The Third Class to Launch in March

The Ikeda Wisdom Academy will launch its third class in March. During the two-year program, academy members will study On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime: SGI President Ikeda’s Lecture Series and The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life: SGI President Ikeda’s Lecture Series.
