Transforming the Place Where We Are Into the Land of Tranquil Light

Words of Encouragement From Ikeda Sensei

Practitioners of the Lotus Sutra should think of the place where they are as the pure land. Why worry about trying to go somewhere else?

“On the Protection of the Nation,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 2, p. 143

The Buddha’s great vow is to transform this troubled saha world into the Land of Tranquil Light. Caring about the problems of others and society is the essence of Nichiren Buddhism and the underlying spirit of “establishing the correct teaching for the peace of the land.”

Today, our members all around the world, as Bodhisattvas of the Earth, are chanting and working tirelessly to make their land “safe and tranquil” (see The Lotus Sutra and Its Opening and Closing Sutras, p. 272).

The protective functions of the universe will respond without fail to the sound of our chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo that envelops the globe. Let’s strive to create a world pervaded by “order and tranquillity” (see “On Establishing the Correct Teaching,” WND-1, 22), starting from the places where we are now.
