Brief Guidances

Children Are a Precious Source of Hope

Words of Encouragement From Ikeda Sensei

[You, Nanjo Tokimitsu, have two children, a boy and a girl.] A son and a daughter are like the sun and moon in the sky, the directions east and west on the earth, the two wings of a bird, or the two wheels of a carriage.

“The Treasure of a Child,” The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 2, p. 884

Nichiren Daishonin always rejoiced at the birth and healthy growth of his disciples’ children.

Every child is a precious source of hope for humanity. Tomorrow, November 15, is the Shichi-go-san festival day for children aged seven, five and three in Japan. Let’s make it an occasion to celebrate these young treasures filled with limitless potential and pray for their health and happiness.

Our children are emissaries of the future possessing wondrous karmic ties and good fortune, young people who will shoulder the mission of worldwide kosen-rufu in the 21st century.

As we aim toward the Soka Gakkai’s centennial (in 2030), let’s keep striving to learn, develop and advance together!

Translated from the November 14, 2020 Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper.
