30th Anniversary of Spiritual Independence Day

Nov. 28, 1991: Nichiren Shoshu priests, who were plotting to destroy the Soka Gakkai and create separation between the mentor and disciples of Soka, sent the Soka Gakkai a notice of excommunication. This day, when the Soka Gakkai took flight as a world religion, later came to be known as Spiritual Independence Day. (See NHR-16, “Soaring” chapter; and NHR-30, “Vow” chapter)
