The Soka International School Malaysia (SISM) is scheduled to open in 2023 on the outskirts of the Malaysian capital in the state of Negeri Sembilan. Located in an area known for its scenic beauty, the school will be surrounded by various educational institutions, including universities.

SISM will serve as a combined junior high and senior high school with all classes conducted in English, making enrollment open to both Malaysian and overseas students. Based on the educational philosophy of the three founding Soka Gakkai presidents, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, Josei Toda and Daisaku Ikeda, the school will provide an academically rigorous curriculum centered on humanistic education aimed at fostering global citizens of wisdom, courage and compassion.

SISM will offer the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curriculum to junior high school students. SISM will also offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program and the Cambridge International A Levels to senior high school students, thus giving the senior high school students a choice.

These educational programs will give students direct access to major universities around the world, including Soka University of America and Soka University (in Japan).

As an international school, dormitories will be available on campus for overseas students. This autumn, a visitor’s center is scheduled to be completed. SISM’s official website will also be launched soon.

Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM) Vice General Director Kok Fook On has been appointed the chief executive officer and chairman of the school, while Dr. Nirmala Krishnan has been invited to assume the role as the school’s principal. After obtaining her Ph.D. from the University of Madras in India, Dr. Krishnan continued her studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has rich experience as an educator in secondary education, including serving as the principal of prestigious international schools in India.

SGM General Director Koh Sia Feai and individuals from Malaysia, Japan, the United States and India have been appointed as members of the school’s board of directors to support its operations.

Ikeda Sensei has expressed that the promotion of education is his culminating undertaking in life. SISM is the first international secondary school to bear the name “Soka.” Many can look forward to a future in which young, capable individuals from various countries around the world take flight on the global stage and contribute to the peace and happiness of humankind rooted in the educational philosophy of Soka.
