A Lion of Justice Named “30 Under 30”

Young movers and shakers who are changing paradigms.

Lighting programmer Davey Martinez, 28, an SGI-USA member in Los Angeles, has been named among Live Design International’s “30 Under 30,” a shout out to 30 “young movers and shakers who are changing paradigms, looking at things from new angles and rapidly rising to the forefront of their field.”

Mr. Martinez serves as a lighting programmer and director for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Bruno Mars and Beyoncé. He also worked with Janet Jackson on her 2017 tour and Skrillex from 2012–15.

For 30 years, Live Design International has been the leading tradeshow and conference for live design professionals internationally.

In his “30 Under 30” profile, Mr. Martinez attributes many of his skills to his SGI training, saying, in part: “During my teens, I was involved in the SGI, an international Buddhist organization promoting world peace, culture and education. I performed at large-scale events and concerts. These events are where I truly gained my knowledge base and appreciation for stage production.”

Mr. Martinez plans to attend the 50,000 Lions of Justice Festival on Sept. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
