“In the Soka Gakkai, a chapter is not just an outpost. In my opinion, for the area encompassed by the chapter and the people practicing Buddhism there, it has the same responsibility and mission as the headquarters. From the perspective of our organization on a national scale, the Soka Gakkai Headquarters may be the central hub, but I hope each of you will strive to establish and develop Buddhism in your respective communities thinking of the chapter as the headquarters in your area.”

It’s 2018—the Year of Brilliant Achievement in the New Era of Worldwide Kosen-rufu— and you’re willing, you’re ready and you’re able to support the youth toward their momentous 50,000 Lions of Justice Festival to be held on Sept. 23 in nine cities (see Festival Date and New Locations Announced!). But how do you translate all that inspiration into action? In January, chapters throughout the country will hold kickoffs to unite their efforts toward the 50K Festival.

Here are five things you can do right now to make your chapter kickoff a success, and ring in the New Year with the momentum of a charging lion!

Make a list of the youth from your chapter who were confirmed to attend the July 2017 young women’s and young men’s general meetings, and December 2017 youth general meetings. Start by inviting these youth to the chapter kickoffs.

Create a four-divisional goal for youth attendance for the meeting.

Empower the youth to plan/lead the kickoff, with the men’s and women’s division supporting fully to promote and execute the most encouraging meeting.

A week before the meeting, unite as a chapter four divisionally for a “home visit marathon” of the youth in your chapter.

Welcome new youth to join the SGI-USA in your chapter!
