Lighting Up Taiwan With Hope

From the 2017 Youth Training Course.

Young men from the SGI-USA and the Taiwan Soka Association build bonds of friendship, while discussing how kosen-rufu is advancing in their respective countries. Tokyo, September 2017.

The Taiwan Soka Association is “lighting up Taiwan” with the philosophy and practice of the Soka Gakkai. In April and May of this year, the members held a Friendship Festival in each of their 48 regions that enabled youth to share their practice with their friends. In total, nearly 20,000 youth attended these Friendship Festivals!

The “Light Up Taiwan” app “lights up” as kosen-rufu progresses in different areas of Taiwan.

Different parts of Taiwan are “lit up” on a map of Taiwan to show the areas that are advancing in home visits and propagation. When asked about the difference in how the members are advancing kosen-rufu this year compared with past years, Taiwan’s young women’s leader shared that all four divisions are focused on introducing youth to the practice, and each chapter has set a courageous goal for introducing youth. In addition, the youth made four goals for each new member to:

1) Learn gongyo

2) Share an experience at a meeting

3) Introduce a friend to Buddhism

4) Take the Introductory Exam
