I am as concerned about the illness of your [Toki Jonin’s] wife, the lay nun Toki, as though it were I myself who is ailing, and day and night I pray to the heavenly gods that she will recover.

Encouragement Starts With Deep Prayer

Nichiren Daishonin chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for the recovery of one of his disciples, feeling the pain of her illness as if it were his own.

Inheriting this spirit of great compassion, we of the Soka family support friends who are suffering or struggling with problems, chanting with them and helping them make a breakthrough in their lives. Treasuring each individual to the utmost—this is the Soka Gakkai spirit, directly linked to Nichiren, the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law.

Faith in the Mystic Law enables us to change poison into medicine. The beneficial power of our chanting Nam-myoho- renge-kyo will not fail to reach others even if we are far apart. Let’s impart to our friends again today encouragement that flows forth from our sincere prayers for their happiness.

The sun is brilliant, and the moon, clear. The words of the Lotus Sutra are brilliant and clear, clear and brilliant, like the reflection of a face in a bright mirror, or the image of the moon on clear water.
