50K Lions of Justice Festival Locations Announced!

“50,000 Lions of Justice” will gather in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles in fall 2018.

Along with the exciting announcement of the festival locations, the SGI-USA is revving up its social media presence to attract more youth. Check out some recent developments:

WHAT: SGI-USA youth peace festival themed “50,000 Lions of Justice: Ushering in an Era of Hope and Respect.”

WHEN: Fall 2018 (date TBD).

WHO: SGI-USA members and friends ages 18–39. In addition, junior high and high school division members are invited to watch the festival from their local SGI-USA centers via simulcast.

WHERE: The festival will take place simultaneously in three cities: New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

WHY: The “50,000 Lions of Justice” was originally inspired by the events of Sept. 8, 1957. On that day, second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda made his Declaration for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons before 50,000 Soka Gakkai youth, entrusting them with the mission to create a society based on the dignity and respect for all human life. Having passed away seven months later, President Toda imparted this declaration as his final injunction to the youth.

In this spirit, 50,000 youth across America will gather next year to make their own modern declaration, based on a shared vow with their mentor, SGI President Ikeda.

Through spreading the humanistic ideals of SGI Nichiren Buddhism, these corps youth will determine to create a society that flourishes with countless individuals who are awakened to the fundamental truth that every life is valuable, irreplaceable and worthy of utmost respect.
