Cherry trees are starting to bloom, signaling the arrival of spring. This year, national cherry blossom festivals will be held in 14 states across the country to commemorate the 1912 gift of 3,000 cherry trees from the city of Tokyo to Washington, D.C. The original gift and annual festival celebrate the friendship between the United States and Japan.
