On Jan. 16, Americans celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, honoring the civil rights leader’s fight for freedom, equality and peace. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, in Washington, D.C., features the 30-foot Stone of Hope, which is engraved with the words: “Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope,” derived from Dr. King’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech.
